About the Research Group

The Constitutional Law of Universities (LOU) in its article 40.2 mentions the Recognized Research Groups (GIR) as basic units for the development of research, being an essential function of the University.

Although the Research Group Thermal Energy Engineering of the University of Valladolid has a previous research activity, it is from 2004 when it acquires the condition of Recognized Research Group within the Engineering and Architecture Area, coinciding with the approval of the recognition of research groups of the University of Valladolid procedure.

In 2006 the Regional Government of Castile and Leon approved the procedure for recognizing the Research Group of Excellence (GIEX), that supposed a qualitative recognition to the research carried out for the research group and promotes the research in fields of excellence.

The Research Group Thermal Energy Engineering acquired the condition of Research Group of Excellence GIEX 181 till the past 29th February 2016, date that the GIEXs disappeared due to regulatory repeal in favor of the creation of the figure of Consolidated Research Unit (UIC), that recognizes an outstanding research trajectory in order to promote it and improve its international competitiveness.

From 2015 we exceeded the evaluation criteria and we are referred as the Consolidated Research Unit UIC 053, condition that has been renewed in 2018, moment in which we have broaden the number of members of the group.
